![]() They had all the intention to add more maps to L4D so it's obvious that this was it, a due to MS preassure they morphed it into a new game ![]() So L4D2 and crackdown 2 came up, but only Valve was able to produce gameplay footage in time for the E3 because they were already working on DLC for L4D (it's obviously the same game, no improvements) Probably around last january they took a look and their posible E3 line up and it was very poor so they talked to all the studios to see if they could add something I would love Valve to take time out, make a completely new engine and use that engine to make the next half life, weather its episode 3 or something else after that ( i know they have said nothing is coming after, but hey things change).Īnyway, i am just blabbing on. I have always thought of valve as the developers who take their time and will take as long as they like ( even if it is 4 or 5 years )to make a true AAA game. I don't doubt that Valve are very, very talented and i know they make awesome games. I know game play is most important and from what most people have said its a great fun game, but something about its graphics to start with instantly turned me off it ( and yes i will be the first to say, i am being a hypocrite here ). its hard to explain why, i got the demo played it and instantly felt i had been transported back in time. I should not complain, i didn't get left for dead. I mean in less then a year they announce LFD2 and in what, 2 years, we have not heard anything of the next episode to half life. I don't know, it's prob just me and i know people will hate me for saying this, but it almost feels like they are using this as some sort of cash cow to keep them going while they work on HL2 episode 3 or something. This isn't how Valve have traditionally done their business. L4D dies with the release of L4D2, Valve want to charge full price again, and ultimately the community will be wary of supporting either L4D or L4D2 since who knows when Valve will make yet another release. This is why people (primarily on the PC side I imagine since that is Valve's historical base) feel let down - for TF2 and all the source games, this kind of stuff was supported by Valve for no additional charge and augmented by the community. ![]() So we'll do the same thing with Left 4 Dead where we'll have the initial release and then we'll release more movies, more characters, more weapons, unlockables, achievements, because that's the way you continue to grow a community over time." And that number is really important because it determines how many community created maps there are, how many servers are running, and so on. "So each time we've released one of those for Team Fortress 2 we've seen about a 20% increase in the number of people who are playing online. And that ongoing delivery of content really seems to grow the community. And we tell the stories about the characters, like the meet the sniper, or meet the sandwich. So if you look at Team Fortress 2, one of things that's really helped grow the community is the continuous updates, where we release new maps, new character classes, new unlockables, new weapons. I personally can’t wait.He said: "One of the things that we're doing is we seem to be in a transition between games as a package product and games more of a service. Its new modes, Infected and weaponry all seem to be superior additions, and the game itself should be just as awesome as the original, if not better. All signs point to it being a massive success, despite the controversy that surrounded its original announcement. Left 4 Dead 2 is on sale November 17 in the US and November 20 in Europe. Gabe Newell adds that he believes Left 4 Dead 2 will be the most successful game his company’s ever made: “Based on the strength of pre-orders, Left 4 Dead 2 will be the fastest-selling product in Valve’s history.” Half is set aside for Europe, with the lion’s share being spent on the UK release,” says Valve’s Doug Lombardi. “$25m is being spent on the game’s launch globally. We already know that the upcoming zombie shooter has a worldwide marketing budget of $25 million, but Valve has today stated that a whopping £6 million of the fund is going to Britain. ![]() Valve wants us all to know that Left 4 Dead 2 is out this month, and it shall spare no expense in getting that message across.
